Dike investigation

Dike exploration for early detection of damages and weakening of the dike body - Preventive flood protection

“Extreme floods in Germany in recent years have repeatedly reminded us of the need to maintain intact river dikes. Non-destructive investigations to explore the internal structure of dikes are therefore an important part of preventive flood protection”. (Donié et al., 2007)

Geophysical methods with optimized measurement technology and modern data processing enable fast, high-resolution and comparatively cost-effective exploration of large underground areas.

In addition to visual inspection and exploration drilling, damage and weak points within the dike body (damage caused by burrowing animals, cavitation caused by strong seepage flows, internal erosion, etc.) that cannot be reliably detected from the surface or with localized outcrops, can be detected with geophysical methods.
